Call me crass

I’ve been feeling a bit put out lately by the influence that the religilous Australian Christian Lobby has been showing here in Australia of late. The influence with regards to our education system is a disgraceful situation, and the time has come to stop being polite to people. Dusty Smith, who is a particularly angry YouTuber recently spoke out against the rapture that didn’t happen, but he edited out some particularly golden moments from his original vid. Sometimes I feel like just spouting like this…┬áThis is the video.

*WARNING: Very strong language warning!*

  1. I suggest that the time will never come to stop being polite to people. I don’t enjoy it when religious people are rude and belligerent to me, and I’m sure you don’t either.

Of course, we can discuss what we mean by polite. I’m not in any way suggesting that one shouldn’t disagree with others. However, as Marshall McLuhan famously said, “the medium is the message”. If we start being rude to people, they will not listen, no matter how compelling our arguments.

I’m not pretending it’s fun. I’m not pretending it’s easy. Forgive me for using a well known phrase of Jesus, but “turning the other cheek” is hard.

But I maintain, as soon as you join them on the level of vitriol, ridicule and abuse, the war is over. And they have won. They will characterise you as an “angry atheist” and it doesn’t matter what you say, they have won.

    • Although you have a valid point there, Jonathan, haven’t you ever felt the urge to yell at the idiocy of some people?

I agree with you, it is not productive, and it makes us look bad; thankfully there are people like Dusty who has the guts to go and yell at them and be as obnoxious as obnoxious can be, and I would put money on the idea that he got some sort of release. I did just by listening to him.

We all get frustrated at the way things are handled over the stupid whims of the religious nuts, who are a majority group. Things that shouldn’t even be considered in the light of religion are at stake because they practically rule the world. Our frustration is beyond explanation.

However, we do have self-control, at least Marty does, I do, most of us do. We bite our tongues and are mostly polite and try to handle those willful ignorant with much civility – too much in some cases… which gets us even more frustrated when is still unproductive. That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t like to call them “idiots” to their faces, and oh how I wish we could rule over them and tell them to shut the eff up. The thing is we don’t, and we should get some effing medals for that.

  2. I’m 62 years old and I’ve seen a lifetime of the insanity. I just feel bad for my relatives. They bought in to the crap. They feed this shit to the children. It’s insidious.

  3. You can’t explain evolution or the idea of fairy tales to the religious because they are just too fucking dumb! They only see and hear what they want to. We need to secretly invent an anti-religious pill and slip it into their drinks. Then as Dusty says, their religious bullshit will disappear.

  4. I like Dusty, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy gets a stroke while making one of his vids.
