2011 Festivus Special!

And so this is Christmas. And what have I done?

Well I’ve gone and compiled a bunch of music for your enjoyment this silly season. Some are tongue in cheek and some are serious. Some are very new and some are pretty old. There’s rock, pop, bluegrass and folk. So please sit back, turn up your speakers and enjoy these songs, and please leave your thoughts at the bottom of this post.

This piece was performed a couple of days ago on the Jonathan Ross show, but was left out of the final aired edit on the grounds that some people might find it offensive. Lame. People need to learn how to laugh at themselves. An Australian comedian and satirist, Minchin is always welcome to perform on my blog.

Earlier this year, the lovely Shelley Segal released “An Atheist Album“,  and I welcome her to my blog. Another Australian, and another welcome inclusion. I intend to interview her later in the year also, so keep your eyes and ears out for that one also!

Not my favourite song, but this is an example of more atheistic music  making its way into the mainstream.

What’s that you say? Jesus is the reason for the season? Well actually, axial tilt on the earth relative to the position of the sun causing the shortest (longest in Australia) day of the year is the reason for the season. Do yourself some learnin’!

Oh okay, here’s a song about Jesus. Don’t say I never do anything nice for you!

Me? Well Christmas is NOT about Jesus at all. You might say it’s because I’m in league with Satan. Well there’s that, but there’s also more.

When all is said and done, there is only one being in the universe that is worthy of our love and devotion, and I’ll let him have the last word on this blog piece. That is, Cookie Monster.

But in all seriousness folks, I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday period, and I think you all so much for your support and kindness this year. Stay well. But wait!! Where’s the atheist Christmas anthem? Yes, it’s right here.
