Imaginary Friends Show Podcast – Episode 74

Posted by on December 11, 2011 in Fun, Thoughts | 3 comments

Yesterday my good buddy Jake Farr-Wharton and I had a conversation over Skype, which Jake recorded for his podcast The Imaginary Friends Show. In the podcast we discuss such topics as Deepak Chopra, the Christmas Myth and children, parenting tips for for the day you meet you daughter’s first boyfriend, plus news including a faith-healing church in the UK claiming it can cure HIV through prayer, and an Islamic cleric’s crusade against phallic shaped vegetables. I hope you find it funny AND entertaining.

  2. Hey guys! Why does Santa have to be a problem? Why can’t you say something along the lines of, “It’s fun to pretend and make believe. We like make believe fairy stories. We enjoy seeing make believe pretend things on TV. At Halloween we like to dress up in costumes and masks and pretend to be all sorts of characters. Christmas is a time when people have a good time pretending there’s someone called Santa Claus who brings presents. There are men who dress up in red suits and play Santa Claus. And Mommy and Daddy get presents for you and fill your stocking and have fun pretending it’s Santa Claus who brought them, a happy make believe game.”

Start with this. Don’t lie. Don’t tell a lie and then later try to be truthful. Start with this from the get-go. Let the kids know from the beginning that it’s just play and not real. Where’s the problem?

    • That’s a pretty good starting point. “It’s fun to pretend, it’s fun to imagine, it’s fun to make believe.” Unfortunately for Jake I think it might be too late for that.
